Dr. Frank-N-Furter or Drag Makeup

Another look you should be able to complete with makeup many people have on hand.

Difficulty: Easy-Medium

Needs:

  • Foundation
  • Contour kit or a highlight/shadow shade of foundation
  • Eye liner
  • Eye shadow (grey for Frank-N-Furter)
  • Lipstick
  • Mascara
  • Elmers non-toxic glue stick
  • Mirror

Optional Supplies:
  • Brushes/applicators
  • Setting powder
  • Setting spray
  • False eyelashes
  • Eye shadow primer
  • Wig

Estimated cost: Free to $2, if you don't have a glue stick.
(It's more if you go for a wig, but in play productions of Rocky Horror Show, they use the actor's natural hair, so I wouldn't worry about it.)

Step One: Glue down those eyebrows

Use your glue stick to glue down the eyebrows. As this is just for Halloween, it doesn't have to be perfect. If you have particularly dark eyebrows, you may consider pressing a powder slightly lighter than your skin into the top layer of glue, to conceal them.

Step Two: Foundation

Apply a coat of foundation evenly.

Note: If you're a man, make sure you get a nice, close shave before this. Stubble will mess with the final look.... unless that's what you're going for.

Step Three: Contour and Highlight

Contour like your life depends on it. If you're not experienced at contour, don't worry, this is your chance to try it out, b/c if you go to bold, you can say it's part of the look.

If you need a visual guide, try this one, but don't worry about the eye shadow they're applying.

Step Four: Powder and Bake (optional)

Baking is a drag trick, to make that makeup last like crazy. Apply a lot of setting powder to your whole face. Jokes about Scarface are optional. Wait 10 minutes for the makeup to "bake," then brush off excess.

Step Five: Eye shadow

If you're going for a Frank-N-Furter look, from the movie, you'll want to use  grey shades of eye shadow. Otherwise, use what makes you happy. I used shades of dark blue to silver, creating a gradient, but in the movie, Frank-N-Furter does what we call "garage door eyes," where it's just one color over the entire lid.

Note that this eye shadow goes up and over the natural position of the eyebrows. I always bring my shadow up to the top of my brows, but no farther, as I can still make facial expressions that way.

Step Six: Lip liner and Lip Stick

Tim Curry's Frank-N-Furter uses black liner on the lips (use eyeliner), but you can use any shade.

Then apply a lipstick, preferably a bold color. Frank-N-Furter uses a rich red.

Step Seven: Eye Liner and Mascara

Line the entire eye with eye liner, then draw in eyebrows with one line of eye liner at the edge of your eye shadow.

Note: Make sure your eyebrows are even! And if you are replicating Frank-N-Furter from the movie, take in the unique shape of his eyebrows.

If you are planning on using false eyelashes, now is the time to apply those.

Step Eight: Final touches

If you have a setting spray, use it to set this finalized look.

If you are going to wear a wig, put it on now.
